According to the official EU data, every person living in Europe generates roughly 127 kg of food waste per year. 55% of all food waste is produced at the household level and has almost no option to be recycled, ending up in landfills. I am looking for ways to repurpose such organic food waste locally, creating beautiful objects for everyday life. Thus, I have created the Bioplastic Wallet from empty edamame shells. Fibers, contained within the edamame pods, increase the strength and flexibility of the cardholder, making it suitable for everyday use. The wallet maintained its qualities for almost six months and was recycled into compost at the end of its life. I am looking for ways to increase the durability of the wallet and to find more functional applications of bioplastics.
